Sleek design and noble materials are characteristic to Sebastien Caporusso’s work. With his lamps, chairs, and tables the designer aims to create simple yet poetic atmospheres. His work is all about marrying the opposition. Organic forms and unusual cuts, unique objects and their effortlessness, all flow together in his creations.Caporusso thinks locally too. The stones, brass, marbles, and other collected minerals that he uses all come from the finest Belgian craftsmen.
“Unusual times call for surprising choices. Yet Sébastien Caporusso is a designer who completely fits in the list of designers of the year. A designer with an outspoken aesthetic way of working combined with a preference for sustainable materials and all of this made by hand. He has knowledge of the individual object, but at the same time he is equally strong in designing total projects. He knows how to bring together the best Belgian craftsmen for each project. His oeuvre therefore beautifully summarizes the zeitgeist: local production, international appeal. Caporusso is a designer from whom we will be hearing a lot in the coming years,” states Dieter Van Den Storm, jury member and curator of the exhibition Please Have a Seat.
The Designer of the Year award is an initiative by the Biennale Interieur and the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend. Sebastien Caporusso is awarded the prize in 2021. He has his own studio and is know for his sleek design and the use of noble materials.
