After she graduated in 2001 from the Ecole Nationale des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in Brussel in the Interior Design department, Nathalie Dewez (°1974) quickly found her way in lighting design. Nathalie pays particular attention to the duality of ‘material/non-material’. She sees this as the core of all lighting objects, focusing on the functionality and quality of lighting, whether switched on or off. Nathalie’s work is characterised by the sparing use of materials, her minimal use of parts and a focus on ease of production.
Her light designs are undeniably charismatic in their own right. A few lines or surfaces with simple and effective geometric form are sufficient to express fine poetry. Her presence at a number of international shows and exhibitions has led to her working with a number of architectural practices and manufacturers, such as Ligne Roset (FR), Habitat (UK) and Established & Sons (UK).
In addition to the title of ‘Designer of the het Year’, Nathalie has also won the Prix Bergé awarded by the auctioneers, Pierre Bergé & Associés.
The Designer of the Year award is an initiative by the Biennale Interieur and the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend. Nathalie Dewez was awarded the prize in 2011. She has her own studio and is known for her work for brands like Ligne Roset, Hermes, Habitat and Vervloet.
