Founded by Henri Matisse's family, Maison Matisse is a house of furniture and design objects inspired by the painter's artistic universe and created in collaboration with emerging or established designers. Each piece reflects the desire to share the universal artist’s heritage, through a respectful and legitimate interpretation of his works.
Maison Matisse collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino to create the Colette armchair. It is a fundamental piece of the collection “Interieur aux Aubergines” inspired by Henri Matisse's painting of the same name (1911).
Cristina Celestino was inspired by Matisse's indoor-outdoor concept represented in the artwork to design a piece of furniture that combines botanical motifs with a wooden structure.
Thanks to its organic patterns and sophisticated colors, the Colette armchair adds refinement and a sense of comfort to the room in which it is placed. It quickly becomes the highlight of your interior by giving a special freshness to it and fits in both traditional and modern universes.
This armchair is made to order and comes in a variety of color combinations (plain or patterned fabrics) created by the designer and inspired by the palette of the painting “Intérieur aux aubergines”.

The natural rattan structure of the Colette armchair was created by one of the last manufactures in Europe specialized in this long-lasting material and located in northern Italy since 1889. Each piece is handmade by uniquely skilled craftsmen who, with care and experience, fold, weave, and intertwine the rattan cores following a traditional method, thus bringing to life the collection conceived by the designer.
The fabrics are made from natural cotton and viscose yarns woven on high precision jacquard looms combining research, know-how and meticulousness to produce very high-quality textiles with unrivaled pattern complexity. This meticulous work was entrusted to a Venetian factory dating from the 18th century, preserving the know-how that has been passed down over generations, while still supporting innovation.
