Auping is celebrating '50 years of designer sleep in Belgium', highlighting the evolution of the day bed with upcoming local design talent. The premium bedding brand challenges creative Sep Verboom and paper artist Margaux Baert to create an artistic installation with the frame of sofa bed Cleopatra, based on their sustainable dreamworld. Please, Have a Look at Margaux’s and Sep’s Cleopatra installations. And Please, Have a Seat on our Noa day beds!
In 1954, sofa bed Cleopatra breaks with the design of all previous beds. It is originally envisioned as a sofa bed which could transform into a living room sofa by adding cushions, making it perfect for the Dutch post-war homes. The bed gets its name from the ancient Egyptian inspired curved end boards. The Cleopatra is our first industrial design: a beautiful, practical and affordable bed. It is produced in series until 1982, that is a noteworthy long time and reflects its success. More than 700.000 Cleopatra beds are sold. Today, the ‘Cleo’ is a popular item on vintage platforms.
Designed by the Danish designer Eva Harlou, Noa day bed is an ode to Cleopatra’s minimal design and strong lines. Also available as a single bed, a doubter, a double bed capturing Auping’s everyday elegance. The airy and Scandinavian design of Noa is perfect for open spaces in your house, such as the living room, the hall or even a covered terrace.
Just like the other Auping beds, Noa is made nearby in our green factory in The Netherlands. The love and attention are hidden in the details. An example of this genuine craftsmanship: all parts of Noa are invisibly connected and the connections between two parts feature a nice milled edge. So instead of bolts or screws, you see an elegant detail, making Auping Noa easy and peaceful for the eye. Another unique design element of Auping Noa are the wooden wheels. At first glance, you may think they don’t work because we have hidden the rotating mechanism on the inside of the wheels. It allows you to easily move the day bed.
Noa day bed can be placed next to the Noa bedside table. You can tilt the table, which comes in handy if you have some work to finish. Or if you want to enjoy reading a book, or watching Netflix. You can also combine Noa day bed with the Smart base 1M, the back part that can be adjusted electrically and a foot part that can be adjusted by hand. Thanks to the spacious seat part of the mesh base, you always sit comfortably and your mattress can be adjusted properly again.
Auping Noa is made of very solid beechwood with oak veneer. This material suits the bed’s shapes well and is also very sustainable. Beechwood is strong and has a very long lifespan. Since the material is so durable, you won’t feel the need to replace your bed any time soon, which prevents waste. For the finish of the bed, there are 6 stained colours available. The subdued colour palette is inspired by nature. All colours are all equally soft and relaxing, and tie in perfectly with the Scandinavian design. We have developed an upholstered, slender mattress for Noa day bed. With a matching pillow roll. We upholster the mattress and pillow roll with the fabric Clara, from Kvadrat. Available in 9 colours. The wooden wheel with hidden rotation gives Noa a unique look and it is also very useful. The two heels on the headboard are available in high and low variants of the bed. The wheels are made in the same colour as the frame.
