Uli Budde Design Office and Oligo for Thonet: Kuula table light. When Form Follows Full Moon. Another exercise in magic. As a reference the Bauhaus era was given from the very beginning, due to the connection with Thonet. The reduction to basic forms, volumes, and elements led to a glass globe on a simple cylindrical base. Industrial as it may seem, the production includes a high amount of handcraft: the sphere consists of mouth-blown crystal glass, sand-blasted by hand - with an extremely precise border between the matte and transluscent upper part and the polished and transparent lower part. A specially conceived lens assures that the light is only directed to the sand-blasted upper section of the crystal glass luminaire . It guarantees a glare-free illumination by the energy-efficient LED, and a magical effect: the light seems to float above the base.
