Studio Ilio / Germany

Studio Ilio (Seongil Choi & Fabio Hendry): Hot Wire Extensions. When Form Follows Facility. Rapid expansion of 3D printing technology created a new ecological problem – leftover nylon powder. Ilio developed a new method that heats the waste into objects, without the need of a mold or any other equipment, and with the naturalness of an organic process. A nickel-chromium wire can be bent with great facility into the desired shape, placed in a container, and covered in a mix of nylon powder and sand. When connected to an electrical source, the mixture hardens around the heated up wire into a solid form.
