A Matter of Perception
2014 marks the first decade of DAMn° magazine and since it was launched at the Interieur Biennale INTERIEUR 2004 we thought it was only fitting to return to the scene of the crime to celebrate our anniversary with old friends & new. At the beginning, Damn had a wish to create a new sort of magazine that truly connects the many worlds of design, architecture and art, and not just joins the dots. Curious to the core, Damn told the last decade the tales of creators & inventors, designers & architects, artists & photographers, thinkers & tinkerers, romancers & adventurers, masters & pupils, storytellers & dreamers. Unafraid to link the personal and the political, the economic and the emotional, the stylistic and social, we have always sought the human touch of the creative spirit.
The exhibition ‘A Matter of Perception’ brings together all these ingredients in the distinctly un-ivory like destination of the Broel Tower in Kortrijk. Inviting many creative conspirators to create an exclusive work for the event, visitors will even have the opportunity to purchase these objects or visual offerings by the likes of Jasper Morrison, Campana Brothers, Bjarke Ingels, Martí Guixé, Alberto Alessi, Michael Anastassiades, Michael Young, Denise Scott Brown, Julien De Smedt, Luke Pearson, and many others, and to takeaway but not throwaway a selection of the manifestos written by Ingo Maurer, Olafur Eliasson, Daan Roosegaarde, Lowie Vermeersch, Jurgen Bey, Sissel Tolaas, Alessandro Sarfatti & Kobe Desramaults, ao.
DAMn° also has a big smile on its collective face in welcoming Flos as cohort. Fitting perfectly with the poetry of the setting, the renowned Italian lighting company will occupy all three floors of the Broel Tower with an installation of Michael Anastassiades’s work for the company, creating a sensorial experience that promises to embed itself in the visitor’s memory. This is one tower that will make Rapunzel shave off her hair...
